Staff Picks: JUDGMENT NIGHT (1993)
I grew up with “Judgment Night”. I truly love this film. I have no idea why it exists.

When you let Greg Rucka, who wrote the original comic, write the script and hire a director like Gina Prince-Bythewood, who has never done anything close to an action film before… you’re going to end up with something interesting. “The Old Guard” is certainly that.
As a general rule, biopics are formulaic and predictable. That can not be said about “Domino”, though. It is something that doesn’t really fit any mold.
In the pantheon of action cinema of the ’90s, “Point Break” is a landmark.
I don’t really know how to talk about “The Lovebirds” without discussing the current state of the world and its effect on the film industry . . .
Something was different when “Goldeneye” was on the verge of release. [It] felt fresh and exciting in a way that the series never had to me before that point and I couldn’t wait to see it.
Our resident video clerk, Patrick Bartlett, is back with another look at the vampire cult classic “Near Dark”!
Whenever I admit that my favorite Christmas movie is “Gremlins”, people lose their minds …
…Part of the discussion that’s existed since the release of Fury Road is people declaring it the best Mad Max movie or arguing whether it or “Mad Max 2” (aka “The Road Warrior” here in the U.S.) is the best Mad Max film. To me, that’s all wrong. As far as I’m concerned, the original “Mad Max” is the best of the series and it’s not even close.
One of the most memorable lines in the 1998 action/horror hybrid “Blade” is one where the title character, played by Wesley Snipes, is asked if he’s a vampire. He replies no he isn’t, he’s something else entirely. That’s obviously a cool line that sets up the character of Blade, along with his relationship to the world around him… but it’s also a pretty good summation of the film itself.
